Year long update.

Another year has passed. And this year 2017 had to be the most challenging for many of us. It has been almost a year since I was able to update my blog which I would like to share with you now.

I began 2107 with a solo show near San Francisco and ended my year with a solo show in San Diego and an honor of being chosen for SD Home and Garden Magazine Art Stars of San Diego.  In between those times I had the opportunity to teach many students the art of encaustic painting….always a joy. Many of those students were enthusiastic enough to start their own practice in newly made studio spaces. Proud teacher and mentor.

I can see that my artwork is evolving, tending now more toward the sculptural.
Planning a trip to Malaga, Spain this March for an encaustic workshop with Ellen Koment and Belen Milan. I can hardly wait to learn from them.

Here are shows I will be involved with in 2108:
•Exhibition with Jiela and Heide Rufeh at Front Porch Gallery in March with reception in April.
•Possible dance and art collaboration in April.
•Encintas Library solo show in October.

Our travels took us to San Francisco to see our son David and daughter- in- law Brenda and grandchildren Evan and Vivian, named after my mom.
Joined our traveling buddies on a fabulous trip to Mexico City and Puebla both places hit hard by the earthquake several months later.
Dream trip to Denali Alaska through Gate One Travel in August one month after my dear mom passed away at home with daughters by her side.  That trip was for me a time to regroup and heal from this past difficult year.

I bought a cello and I am learning to play it.

My friend Jan posted one of my favorite quotes that I believe is so true and I want to share it with you.
“Until one is committed there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative or creation, there is one elementary truth, that the moment one definite commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that otherwise never would have occurred.  A whole stream of events issues from the decision raising in one’s favor all manner of incidents and meetings and material assistance which no one would have believed would have come their way.’   W.H. Murray, Scottish Himalayan Expedition.

I have loved this quote and believe it with all my heart. Doors open, successes occur. The universe hears and supports.  Things have happened to me that I would never have dreamed possible.  And that is what I wish for all of you in the year to come…to look at what is possible and go for it.
